The Forgotten Way

A falling away from God in all things is disregard for His love, His commandments, and our own salvation- it is utter destruction. 

Suicide is the intentional act of taking one's own life.

Despair is when a person gives up all hope of salvation.

Hatred of God is the active opposition of God, treating Him with contempt and rejecting His will. 

Spiritual paralysis is spiritual stagnation, where our soul's movement towards God has halted. 

Hopelessness is to fall into despair and distrust God's mercy.

Insensitivity is callousness and hardness of heart. It is difficulty in responding to our neighbor with love. 

Mercilessness is lacking compassion and a desire to forgive. It is ruthlessness.

Scorn for one's neighbor is ultimately to be unconcerned with their suffering and salvation. 

Self-inflation is the boasting of one's own importance; it is a high self-esteem.

Self-vaunting is boasting, bragging, or speaking pridefully about ourselves.

Haughtiness is an attitude of disdainful pride and arrogance. 

Senselessness is being ignorant, stupid. and unreasonable. 

Frivolous talk is conversation that is shallow, trivial, and lacks serious purpose.

Treachery is a breach of loyalty; it is a betrayal of trust. 

Irony is false self-abasement. It is a form of lying to appear humble. 

Dissimulation is the concealment of one's thoughts or true character.

Love of power is a compulsive desire to control others and a need for dominance.

Unteachability is a resistance to accept the guidance, instruction, and corrections from others. It stems from self-reliance. 

Lack of Fear of God is a loss of deep respect, reverence, and remembrance of God.

Contumely is the harsh treatment of our neighbor that comes from haughtiness and conceit. 

Curiosity is the strong desire to learn something new, unknown, or unusual. 

Satanic love is a corruption of love, a desire to satisfy our selfishness, and use our neighbor.

Pusillanimity is a weakness of soul, a lack of firm resolution, and lack of courage.

Affectation is taking on mannerisms and behaviors to impress others. 

Ostentation is a showy, haughty self-display.

Clinging to life is a desperate attempt to hold onto this transient life. 

Ill-temper is having an irritable and angry disposition that is easily provoked.

Misuse is to use something incorrectly, improperly, or carelessly. 

Rancor is a bitter remembrance of wrongs. 

Affluence is the accumulation of wealth and material possessions. It is a state of abundance. 

Irritability is being easily provoked to anger at life's daily annoyances. 

Intolerance is a lack of sympathy for practices differing from one's own and not showing respect for a person right to hold another view. It is important to note that falsehood and attacks against the truth cannot be tolerated. 

Depravity is moral corruption and wickedness.

Niggardliness is being stingy and ungenerous with our time and possessions.

Garrulity is being excessively talkative and wordy especially regarding trivial matters. 

Silly talk is speaking in a nonsensical and meaningless way.

Nonsensicality is being foolish, absurd, and lacking sense. 

Bad habits are a strong tendency to morally wrong actions through repeated sin. 

Mindless friendship is being friends and companions with people that do not aid us along the path to salvation. 

Daydreaming is a stream of consciousness that detaches and distracts us from our duties. 

Mindless joy is the abandonment of watchfulness and mourning, and exchanging them for transient happiness. 

Empty words are non-salvific words, wasted conversation, and idle chatter.

Verbosity is using more words than are needed. 

Lying is to speak what is false, misleading, and intentionally inaccurate. 

Confusion is perplexity, disorder, and darkness. 

Pettiness is being concerned about trivial matters; it is being small-minded. 

Contemptuousness is having a deep dislike, disdain, or scorn combined with a sense of superiority.  

Malevolence is ill will. It is the disposition to do evil. It is characteristic of the devil.

Ingratitude is a lack of thanksgiving and remembrance of God's goodness and blessings. 

Ingratitude is failing to acknowledge, give thanks, and return God's love. Ingratitude forgets God's blessing and takes His goodness for granted.

Fault finding is being constantly critical, petty, and nagging towards our neighbor. 

Blasphemy can be a willful thought, word, or action that is filled with anger, scorn, and disrespect against God.

Blasphemy is to use scornful, disrespectful, and abusive language against God.

Complaining is to express dissatisfaction and annoyance. It is to grumble and whine.  

Obloquy is a strong condemnation. It is verbal abuse, criticism, and insults. 

Hardness of heart is being cold, insensitive, and resistant to spiritual truth. 

Grave robbing is to steal what is due to the deceased.

Wiliness is being cunning, crafty, and sneaking. People with guile are full of wiliness. 

Usury is the practice of lending money and earning profit by charging interest. 

Illicit gains are to gain wealth, status, or praise in an immoral way.

Do we take our own growth in the spiritual life as seriously as God takes it?

Sacrilege is a violation or misuse of what is sacred. 

Brigandry is the practice of organized robbery by criminals who plunder for a living.

Killing is to murder which stems from anger, hatred, and remembrance of wrongs. 

Warfare is a hostile conflict between competing enemies.

A conspiracy is an agreement between two or more people to commit an unlawful or harmful act.

Reprehensible collusion is a secret agreement between two or more parties to deceive and mislead others.

Disorderliness is to do things in a random and chaotic manner.

Insubordination is the explicit refusal to follow a supervisor's instructions and the direct challenge to authority. 

Excessive love order is a false notion of obedience and control that stems from self-reliance and a lack of faith.

License of tongue is excessive talkativeness.

Flute playing is to make music with a flute or a pipe.

Revelry is excessive and indulgent eating, drinking, and partying.

Improper songs are songs and music that incite the passions rather than lift the heart and mind to God.

Clapping is an act of applause and praise made by striking the hands together.

Immodest dancing is indecent, improper, and leads to lust. 

Joking is to say or do something to provoke laughter.

Laughter is a show of emotion of joy or scorn with a chuckle or explosive vocal sound.

Feigned affection is an insincere display of love or care. 

Sordidness is morally filthy and wretched. 

Pollution is defilement and corruption.

Uncleanliness is a state of moral and spiritual impurity.

Incest is a sexual relationship between close family members.

A stained soul is a soul that is sick with sin and in need of repentance. 

Wantonness is unrestrained and reckless indulgence characterized by a lack of self-control.

Defilement is to be stained with sin.

Bestiality is the carnal relations of a human with an animal.

Sodomy is a non-procreative sexual act.

Adultery is a sexual relationship between a married person and person outside of the marriage. 

Pimping is controlling and profiting from prostitutes. 

Masturbation is a solitary sin of impurity.

Burning lust is an intense desire for carnal pleasure.

Unbridled desire is lustful attraction and lack of purity.

Effeminacy describes a man who is unwilling to suffer, who is delicate, and loves to pamper his body.

Using foul language is using crass, uncouth, blasphemous, and vulgar speech. 

Venery is sexual indulgence.

Self-indulgence is the gratification of our appetites, desires, and whims. 

Mindless enjoyment is preferring temporal pleasure to the Cross of Christ.

Slackness is listlessness and laziness.
